ABSTRACT

Integrated Storytelling by Design is more than the sum of parts. It is a combination of the balanced elements used to design and create rich and engaging story experiences by applying the best of multiple disciplines to create a coherent, harmonious whole. In order to do this, and to venture beyond the telling of stories to story experiences that are not defined or limited by formats, media or technology, the following ten crucial criteria should be considered and implemented by designers and creators to various degrees, depending on the specifics of a story experience project. They are: Audience-Centric Design, Story Experience, Audience Influence, Audience Context, Creator-Story-Audience Relationship, Story Modularisation, Interdisciplinary Design, Transmedia Convergence, Technology Independent, and Organisationally Integrated. These ten key criteria can be balanced and combined differently depending upon how they help make the best, most relevant audience-centric story experience for a specific project.
