ABSTRACT

Establishing a more diverse view on the modality of the audience is a massive step forward; but still, there is more to understanding and designing for the nuances of audiences. It is necessary to look at the immediate surroundings and situations of the audience; to take a look at the context, in which the audience will engage with the stories. This chapter explores how much influence and context of the audience can have on a story. The audience can be deeply immersed in the story world of a book for hours and hours, which makes space for a wealth of nuances and details. A lack of understanding of social context can easily prove a pitfall, not at least when adding new, immersive technologies to the story experience. Fluctuating modalities are even more complicated than merely going from one screen to the next.
