ABSTRACT

This chapter defines the audience as nuanced, multidimensional characters that are to be rightfully considered as interchangeable, living organisms. They are more than segments and numbers and have even more depth than anything a story creator can define and design in detail. Thinking of the audience in such a nuanced and rich way gives way for new dimensions of narratives, and story experiences that not only play with surroundings and modalities but also let the audience engage with a narrative, where shifts from immersive, focused observation to a state of hyper-modality influential interaction can happen dynamically. The story creator and designer does not have to activate each and every one of them, as long as the audience is kept at the centre of the universe when designing a story experience.
