ABSTRACT

Experience design with the purpose of enhancing stories, entertainment and immersion – what could arguably be referenced as creative experience design – extends beyond practices, as they are known from service design and IT development. When working with storytelling as a design method, the structures of the story and the experience mirror one another, which enables both of them to be built in parallel; as stated earlier, the magic does not necessarily have to begin with the story, and experiences and storytelling have similar traits. Great storytelling is a sequence of events that become unforgettable storylines. Great experience design is a sequence of moments that become unforgettable memories. Considering experiences as a string of events also makes it possible for the designer to adjust or emphasise specific parts of the event, or micro events, in particular those who leave the audience with a significant negative or positive imprint.
