ABSTRACT

The conclusion offers final comments emphasizing the main conclusions drawn from the study, namely that the female biopic is not simply a regressive portrayal of female victimhood, but rather a complex hybrid of progressive and regressive ideas about women. It does not offer a masochistic appeal to women, inviting them merely to take perverse pleasure in watching other women suffer on screen, but instead mixes portraits of female victimhood with affirmation of women’s accomplishments and endurance under a patriarchal system.
