ABSTRACT

In this chapter, we present a common structure to facilitate not only employment of tasks but also support for learner reflection, noticing, and conversation in Small Environment instructional sessions: the 62 Think-Pair-Share. We preview the use of the structure from the lens of the learner and the lens of the teacher, explain the teacher’s role in the use of the structure to support learners during “Think”, “Pair”, and “Share” for each task posed within an intervention, and unpack the moves of the teacher to prompt, position, and facilitate learner success. We provide practical ways for the teacher to plan for and implement these moves in supplemental intervention settings.
