ABSTRACT
‘Home-focused terrorism’ sees the Hindi postterrorist film from Mumbai engaging with home-focused terror in all its various avatars to cover the pro-Khalistan Punjab turbulence of the 1980s, the Tamil problem, and the Maoist insurgency in the heart of the country. Broaching both the ideological genesis of violent action in the problematic connection between terrorism and counter-terrorism, (Drohkaal, 1994) and particular circumstances to appraise the cause of terrorism, as in the wave of militancy that took over the Punjab of the 1980s and early 1990s (Maachis), these films question the motivations behind organized violent action. In this gamut, a series of Hindi films focus on the terrorist strategy of deploying the ultimate weapon of suicide bombing. The chapter also analyzes the hefty economy of terrorism, negotiates with destabilizing border transgressions and terrorist crossings, and deals with the problematic menace of Islamophobia and the unquestioning falling in with the official code for responding to terror.
