ABSTRACT

Costume designers frequently oversee operational and administrative tasks along with the job of designing their part of a staged production. It is vital to quickly estimate the actual job and its likelihood for success. Every creative project has five assets: people, time, money, collegiality, and artistry. Designers decide for themselves if a show’s combination of assets are workable and attractive opportunities. They use guestimates or back-of-the-envelope appraisals to predict the likely experience. Every show requires an understanding in writing with the producer or a paper trail of detailed invoices.
