ABSTRACT

This chapter looks at how visual art and dance can provide inspiration for one another and in particular it looks at improvisations that encourage quick movement appreciation, developing the idea of fast and uninhibited movement responses. It introduces improvisations using sculptural form, which is particularly pertinent for blind dancers, and how these can be used to elicit complex movement material and develop an understanding of weight transfer. It concludes with an example of a collaborative arts/dance project in South Africa.
