ABSTRACT

The chapter looks at three projects led by the author in 2019; Still Practicing, Stillness, an intergenerational piece for Vo’Arte’s, Company Cim in Portugal, Marked, a commission for Exim Dance Company in the UK, and USAATO.ZA, an event with Japanese ecological clothes designer Usaburo, and how improvisation was used in very different ways in each one. It concludes with a reflection on how pedagogic and choreographic methodologies help students/performers find their individual voice and think about the impact of their work beyond the stage.
