ABSTRACT

What are the advantages of working in disability-specific groups? This chapter is in two parts: the first looks at a research project in 1995 that led to the creation of the Simpson Board; an eye indicator board that allowed a profoundly disabled student, Lisa Simpson, (then a student at Hereward College) to begin to choreograph using only her eyes. The second part, written by Lisa herself, looks at her development and her journey as a choreographer initially working in community dance and then traversing into collaborations with professional companies.
