ABSTRACT

Planning helps teachers organize what they expect their students to learn during the school year, the semester, the unit, and the daily lesson. Planning also helps teachers organize and structure the school day so that student learning is maximized. School districts and individual schools also develop a year-long scope and sequence for each grade level. Scope and sequence are also important when planning a series of lessons that will constitute a unit plan, and even when planning for a single day’s activities. Unit plans are sequenced together to form a course plan, and the courses are sequenced to form a year-long plan. Interdisciplinary unit plans integrate topics from more than one course around a common theme or idea. Reflection-in-action is the process of monitoring students’ work and progress during the class meeting.
