ABSTRACT

Lecturing offers several advantages and reasons for using it in the classroom. Lecturing allows the teacher to present a specific amount of information quickly and efficiently. It can be used with large or small groups. When lecturing, the teacher has a tremendous amount of control over how much emphasis will be placed on certain concepts, facts, and course content. Direct instruction is a scripted and sequential approach for helping students learn by anticipating their responses and questions. It allows students, often in special education programs, to master specific knowledge and skills that have been determined to be important. Effective teachers use an introduction or “hook” to focus students on the content and help them engage with the content. This hook activity is important because it sets the stage for the ensuing content. These activities will vary greatly depending on your personality, the makeup of your classroom, and the content being examined.
