ABSTRACT

The entrepreneurial ecosystem involves various science, technology, higher educational and innovation related actors, policies and agencies which influence and stimulate innovation. They include science and technology or innovation parks, universities, R&D institutions, spin-off firms, venture capital, technology transfer offices, incubators and other supporting institutions. The entrepreneurial ecosystem has come to be recognized as an important feature of new emerging economy and knowledge-based business enterprises in China in the last couple of decades. Despite a relatively short history of entrepreneurship education, China has made considerable progress in its experiment with this new concept. This chapter explores the important elements constituting entrepreneurial ecosystem in China placing universities and higher education at the center of this structure. The chapter will enlighten the readers giving an overall perspective covering national, regional, sectoral and individual or group-level activities of entrepreneurial ecosystem. This chapter has taken a broader view of entrepreneurial ecosystem and the focus is laid on education and skills leading to starts-ups and new firms, role of science and innovation parks and other technology transfer organizations.
