ABSTRACT

The idea of a democratic society is broken into pieces as media plurality, freedom of expression, and critical thought gets harder to maintain. That being the case, the art of kintsugi is, perhaps, a proper metaphor to explain why transmediality and other experimental efforts in journalism practice are golden lacquers in between the broken pieces of a democratic society. Independent journalism initiatives, as they fight for a democratic society, struggle to survive financially, structurally, ethically, and legally. For the sake of rethreading the broken pieces of journalism in Turkey, perhaps, acknowledging all the broken parts along with the missing ones and their variations is the most reasonable way to follow. There is a constant circular interaction as the society, journalism, and politics influence one another. At first, the political climate is reflected in journalism culture and shapes it accordingly.
