ABSTRACT
Focusing on the period between 1947 and 1964, Chapter 3 examines the role of Soviet imports in the building of a “socialist modernity.” The role of standardization and rationalization is shown to have been essential in this process. The themes of domesticity and production emerge as instrumental in reshaping both the infrastructural and ideological dimension of this new modernity.
