ABSTRACT

This chapter focuses on the tactics and practices of evasive actions as repeatable, safe and consistent components of staged swordplay. Key elements include ARC (Action-Reaction-Completion), evasive measure, avoiding cuts/slashing attacks, avoiding thrusts, evasions by displacement, evasions by distance, parrying in evasive measure, hand parries, and various drills and exercises for practicing evasive actions. Companion website materials are provided, offering additional instruction and techniques. Online Video Assistance (OVA) is also available to supplement the chapter’s written descriptions and illustrations.
