ABSTRACT

Chapter 3 explains which kinds of research projects are suitable for Terrapsychological Inquiry (TI), which can be used either qualitatively (with interviews and other qualitative methods) or as a theoretical study relying on hermeneutics (interpretation). The methodology can also be and has been used for various civic, creative, and other projects not connected to academia. The chapter compares TI with other frequently used methodologies like case study, autoethnography, Phenomenology, Grounded Theory, Organic Inquiry, and transpersonal methodologies. Readers will also find advice on how to formulate suitable research questions, where to look for topics, and how to gauge the depth of involvement with the topic in levels and degrees of intensity. Next, a discussion on symbolism as it appears psychologically as well as outwardly is followed by the uses of dreams in terrapsychological work and the role of detecting archetypes (which are defined) and mythic images and motifs returned to life in the topic of inquiry.
