ABSTRACT

Most frauds use some form of communication to deceive us into complying with the offer. This communication can be written, verbal or comprise mannerisms and gestures projected by the scammer. It can influence how we perceive the fraudulent offer or how we feel about the scammer, which could have an impact on our decisions. This chapter explains the process of communication and the factors that enhance or hinder persuasiveness and the effectiveness of the message. Additionally, it discusses the role of deception in our daily life, why it is harmful and why it is not always easy to detect if someone is deceiving us, because deception frequently depends on cultural and other factors.
