ABSTRACT

In my field of research, I worked with incarcerated victims of domestic abuse. Unfortunately, I learned that the victims of domestic abuse were often incarcerated for defending themselves within their abusive relationships. The more I interviewed these victims who were incarcerated the more I discovered that they were not able to easily leave their abusive relationships due to the complexities and psychological restraints that tied them to their abusers. The motive behind this book is to teach formal and informal supports/services what is effective and ineffective for victims who are enduring or have endured domestic abuse.
