Going beyond active and passive hope

This chapter summarizes the theoretical contributions of the book in relation to understanding the cultural framework of hope. Specifically, it engages in the dialog of hope studies and argues that we have to transcend the dichotomy of “passive” (like the carrot in front of the donkey) and “active” hope (like the joy from mastering a craft) through studying the concrete articulations and configurations of socially defined components of hope.
