ABSTRACT

Principle 10 states that The business of business is business. It argues that SVC is not about issues peripheral to the firm, but instead focuses on day-to-day decisions, strategic planning, and core operations. Equally important, it does so in a way that accounts for the complex, dynamic business environment in which firms must operate. As such, SVC is a philosophy of management designed to generate business success. And, because this success (i.e., profit) optimizes value when the firm meets the needs and demands of its broad range of stakeholders, it is compatible with Milton Friedman’s arguments that firms benefit society the most when they focus on business.
