ABSTRACT

Teaching is a complex craft. It can be time-consuming, stressful and at times unbearable, but the pressure of the job, for most, is offset by the reward of helping learners overcome difficulties and succeed in their own individual ways. As an early career teacher in this day and age, the pressure is incredible. Leaving aside external factors, balancing the day-to-day duties of being a classroom practitioner is a tough gig. Planning, marking, giving feedback, assessing and engaging learners isn’t easy at the best of times and that’s without eating, sleeping and maybe talking to people who aren’t teachers about something that isn’t to do with education. So many education books for teachers are written by extremely experienced retired teachers, teachers who have moved on to training at higher education establishments or those who have ventured into (the somewhat foggy) world of consultation.
