ABSTRACT

Educational research is suddenly available in abundance and it can be difficult for early career teachers and trainees to differentiate between wheat is helpful and what is not. This chapter deals with three main educational theorists – Barak Rosenshine, Robert Bjork and John Sweller. These three researchers are able to encapsulate everything a teacher needs to know about pedagogy for at least the first five years of their teaching, if not longer. In addition, the chapter explores the value of cultural capital and the importance of it in our education system. The proposed theorists and ideas about instructional teaching, Cognitive Load Theory and desirable difficulty outline the theoretical underpinning for the vast majority of approaches in the book.
