ABSTRACT

Early career teachers have a lot of guidance on planning lessons. Outcomes, phases and stages are all taught well on training courses. What these courses neglect to focus on are the ways in which teachers can plan for efficiency in learning and reduce their workload by considering factors such as planning for talk and planning for writing. So much planning is task-orientated and this chapter moves away from that. Instead, the focus is on how important it is to incorporate different skills into lessons, and strategies are suggested for how teachers can prepare effectively and efficiently.
