Three Top Tools are shown for TEAM use on improving QUALITY/COST issues. The objective is to demonstrate how they link to each other. Pareto Analysis is an easy count or cost bar chart to enable decisions on what best to problem solve. Usually focus on the top three failure modes. BEWARE the one further down the Pareto that COSTS more than the top three combined. Cause and Effect Diagram or Fishbone – effect at the Head of the Fishbone. MAN, MATERIAL, MOTHER NATURE, MEASUREMENT, MACHINE, and METHOD. Populated by the team for potential High, Medium, and Low influences to be ranked by the Team. 5 Why. Taking high-ranked potentials and asking a series of questions until the TRUE ROOT CAUSE is established. I have used these three tools together when carrying out 8D/PPS exercises. Without a doubt, they are very necessary tools to use when eliminating Quality and Cost issues.
