ABSTRACT
A relatively new tool I have been deeply involved with over the last five years is 5F. It is an effective tool in the Continuous Improvement toolbox as there is for shop floor improvements. A VISUAL tool that can be employed within any processing area. It enables keeping Quality issues live from finding a Quality issue through CONTAINMENT into ROOT CAUSE and an implemented SOLUTION, plus there is a record to update daily the current status of PASS/FAIL at whatever stage of 5F. An example is shown from an automotive vehicle manufacturer on an existing vehicle and a new launch vehicle. For the existing vehicle, it significantly improved vehicle Quality QS score from 15 to 4. In three years, 5F addressed over 500 issues. For the new launch vehicle, it was used with equal success from Prototype, to Pre-Production into Production, solving around a 1000 Quality Issues and greatly assisted QS Score from 200 down to 75 in 12 months.
