ABSTRACT

Policy Deployment. A strategy for Business Improvement is both financial and non-financial. Set and developed at the top level for all to eliminate waste within the business. Use the baseline figures for Cost of Poor Quality from Internal and External failures for customers or in the field. The principle example is a 100-year-old foundry with a £12 million order book, recording year-on-year losses of £800,000, with a failed group-driven Lean Productive Systems framework. The market was inclusive of oil and gas producing predominately stainless-steel bespoke castings. Through Policy Deployment assessment and a matrix of Organisational Structure with top level responsibilities for Waste Elimination, the journey began. The Lean Productive Systems Plan was tailored/implemented, and ten months later, a profit of £250,000 was realised. A year later, a profit of £1 million was posted. Lean and Continuous Improvement was how the business ran.
