ABSTRACT
In my humble opinion, SPC is the greatest and most powerful tool ever created, and yet in industry, it is probably the most underused. CRIMINAL! The objective here is to show how, by example, you can use SPC at the Coal Face and informed differences to out of SPECIFICATION, out of CONTROL, and adverse TRENDS. An example is over 100 SPC charts over 30 years introduced to processes where high defects and scrap rates were being experienced. Cost savings generated by using SPC were £1.3 million. Equal to £13,000 per single chart used by operators at their processes. These are cost savings known at the time of being at the respective companies – seven companies and three separate industries – automotive, aerospace, and construction manufacturing. The biggest buzz using SPC is the EMPOWERMENT to be able to stand back and see OWNERSHIP by Teams. CAPABILITY IS KING!
