ABSTRACT

The preliminary non-intrusive survey work aimed to locate and record the overall extent, preservation and organisation of the earthworks on the site along with others in the vicinity, primarily features such as trackways, former field boundaries and possible building plots The areas of the Eckweek site and other areas in the locale not directly associated with settlement at Eckweek were surveyed during the course of the project: The earthwork surveys were carried out by line and tape using an optical square. The aim of the geophysical survey was to provide more precise detail of the form of the settlement in the remaining fields immediately to the north and south of Eckweek House Farm. At the time of the survey, the excavation work was mainly restricted to the northeastern area of the site, where the earthworks were more readily interpreted from topographic survey.
