ABSTRACT

This initial chapter outlines the conceptual background and methodological articulation that drove the project leading to this book and that binds the chapters together. It opens with a discussion about print culture and the materiality of print cultural production. Then, there is a discussion of the notion of the space of translation and of translation and archive for a genealogy for translation in the Americas, which includes linking translation to colonial processes and legacies. The chapter ends with a description of the methodology used for the analyses of the case studies in the book.
