ABSTRACT

This chapter offers a discussion of the importance of spaces of editorial activity, specifically publishing houses, and of translation in them, for twentieth-century Latin American intellectual production. It focuses on the role of translation in two influential Latin American publishing initiatives, Fondo de Cultura Económica and Biblioteca Ayacucho, which played a crucial role in the circulation of humanities and social science works in the twentieth century. It includes a discussion about their location, their vision, and the intellectual networks with which they were associated.
