ABSTRACT
This chapter focuses on the relationship between translation and border spaces. It discusses ways in which linguistic heterogeneity and hybridity reveal and transgress the borders of monolingual ideologies. Building on the discussion about print culture and cultural production from previous chapters, it discusses border languages and anti-hegemonic forms of languaging. It then focuses on the question of “Portunhol”—a form of languaging involving Portuguese and Spanish—as an instance of linguistically hybrid praxis. The chapter ends with a conceptual discussion of translation as “transculturación” and a reflection of what a decolonial stance for translation would entail.
