ABSTRACT

Timelining is an inter-component Tier 2 Method (T2M) used to examine whether certain components of a starting point can be organized to be assembled or disassembled at specific point in the solution’s lifecycle, and also whether the time sequence of their functions can be rearranged to yield useful innovation. This chapter discusses 12 T3Ms organized into five categories based on the specific search variables. The first category focus on changing the order of when each component will be used. The second category focuses on assembly before use. The third category focus on assembling components at the point of use. The fourth category focuses on the disassembly of components during the active usage period of a solution’s lifespan. The focuses on reducing the undesirable side effect of waste by making a solution easier to disassemble once it reaches the end of its life.
