ABSTRACT

This chapter describes preparatory work that should be performed prior to starting a particular innovation task. Preparatory work is not logical creative thinking (LCT) method-specific and almost always supports most (if not all) LCT methods. Some preparatory work can apply to multiple innovation tasks, especially if they are in the same domain. Preparatory work is classified into three categories: collect ingredients; identify objectives; and develop foresights. Specific tasks can be performed in each category to accomplish corresponding purposes. These are summarized in a table and discussed in more detail. The purpose of developing foresight is to identify trends and select objectives that are consistent with those trends. This may also help explorers to identify (theoretical) starting and ending points, as well as additional objectives. There are two major approaches to developing foresights: future experience fiction and futures studies.
