ABSTRACT

Duration is an intra-component Tier 2 Method (T2M) that introduces changes to the time dimension of a solution, either at the component or solution level. The search algorithm requires explorers to examine components and solutions to identify potential modifications to the dimensions of structure, function, and quantity. The typical variables that explorers can change are: the length of the lifespan, its efficacy curve (including half-life), and/or how much of the lifespan is available to users; residual effects after the end of the lifespan; and how the solution is presented over the time dimension. The logic of the T3M is to shorten the lifespan of a starting point (or its component), to achieve the objective of inducing users to attach more and/or different value to the solution owing to scarcity, thereby increasing the solution’s efficacy. This T3M is often applied in promotion contexts.
