ABSTRACT
The barriers and benefits of collaboration in professional practice are introduced. Broad themes include the impact of contract structure and client buy-in on early and positive collaborative practice; the value of long-term architect–engineer working relationships; the importance of good communication; and the increasing importance of sustainability issues driving more need for innovative and creative collaborations.
