ABSTRACT
The chapter introduces the topic of the book and the main questions it aims to answer. The book investigates US foreign policy in Africa from 1988 to 1994, focusing on the two regions that became the principal theatres of the Cold War in sub-Saharan Africa, hosting direct and indirect superpower intervention: Southern Africa and the Horn of Africa. Through the investigation of the African case, the book aims at providing new perspectives and insights into the study of two main topics: the end of the Cold War in the Third World and US foreign policy during the unipolar moment. The chapter outlines the main themes and questions debated by the literature on these two topics and presents how the book will contribute to that debate.
