ABSTRACT

In Chapter 6, the topic of mediation is introduced along with the different types of mediation in a SEM model. The chapter discusses direct and indirect effects and how it relates to full and partial mediation. Next, the topic of bootstrapping is examined and how this is the most accepted approach to testing mediation right now. The second half of the chapter addresses more complex mediation analysis with parallel mediation and serial mediation. In these more complex mediation analyses, the Estimands function in AMOS is examined, and a detailed discussion illustrates how to use this function via syntax code to calculate indirect effects and, ultimately, test the mediating influence of a relationship. The chapter concludes with a further discussion of bootstrapping and how AMOS will allow you to set a seed number to provide consistent results when you re-run a bootstrap analysis.
