ABSTRACT

This chapter discusses resilience, adaptability, and connection as tools for workplace success. Resilience is a key between self-reliance and sound judgment. It provides us the psychological strength and mental reserves to struggle, overcome, recover, learn, evolve, and repeat. Adaptability improves our flexibility in rapidly adjusting to many new and different situations in life such as change, challenge, environments, cultures, systems, and processes. Our social connections contribute a sense of belonging, care, and value by those around us. Connection is a basic human need, an energy that we use to sustain and strengthen. Our belongingness to a larger community improves motivation, health, and satisfaction, forming the foundation of interpersonal relationships. If we are engaged, our role in the community inherently affects the culture, health, and performance of our workplace through support given and received from the community. People interacting with people influences culture. Organizational culture is impacted at every level of the organization and either improved or degraded by our interactions with people.
