ABSTRACT

As photovoltaic systems grow at an exponential pace and head toward the goal of someday saturating the grid, energy storage systems are a natural fit for bottling sunlight for nighttime photon usage. When designing an energy storage system with storage batteries, we should pay close attention to Article 706. A single or group of rechargeable cells connected together electrically in series, in parallel, or in a combination of both, and composed of lead-acid, nickel cadmium or other electrochemical types. Storage batteries and equipment shall be listed, with the exception of lead-acid batteries. The circuit requirements are very much the same throughout the National Electrical Code, especially when calculating a wire size for a renewable energy system. A plaque or directory will be at a service equipment location or an approved visible location and shall show each power source’s disconnecting means.
