ABSTRACT

A readily accessible disconnecting means can be locked in a room or building but cannot require access with tools. This means that the photovoltaic (PV) system disconnecting means can be inside a building. Each PV system disconnecting means shall not consist of more than six switches mounted in a single enclosure or group of enclosures. It is uncommon to have more than one disconnect for a PV system. A single PV system disconnecting means shall be permitted for combined ac output of one or more inverters or ac modules in an interactive system. The PV system disconnecting means shall have ratings sufficient for the maximum circuit current, available fault current and voltage that is available at the terminals of PV system disconnect. Many devices, such as inverters and PV modules come with isolating devices or disconnecting means. It is also quite possible that an inverter could be designed with the ability to turn off with use of a smartphone app.
