ABSTRACT

The artist (and their team) should be aware of the importance of live performance to help “break” an artist, help build the status of the artist, and then to provide income from international touring and festival appearances. However, touring is expensive, and the artist should have a strategy for live performance. In this chapter you will see an example of a three-year plan for an emerging artist. The plan involves performing unpaid “showcase” gigs and establishing a fan base through opening slots and domestic festival appearances in year one. Year two sees the artist building the fan base with domestic touring and international festival slots, leading to the “winter headline” tour in year three.
