ABSTRACT

“Production” refers to the artist’s equipment and personnel. A band performing in a bar will have their own “backline” – their guitars, drum kit, and amplifiers. The sound system (PA), lighting, and the stage are provided by the venue. Artists touring in larger capacity venues will often carry their own production (PA, lights, etc.) to achieve consistency in sight and sound. This chapter looks at each of the six productions elements – PA, lights, backline, video, set, and stage – in detail and explains how they are used in venues of all sizes.
