ABSTRACT

The work of the booking agent in the live music business is not widely known, or is misunderstood – what exactly does a booking agent do? The booking agent is a type of talent agent who “books” their clients for live performances. Booking agents earn money by charging their clients (the music artists) a commission, and you will learn about those commission rates and deal terms in this chapter. This chapter also looks at how the booking agent works to set ticket prices, negotiate the flat fee or ticket split due to the artist, draw up the contracts, distribute the contract riders, and collect deposits from the organiser of the concert.
