ABSTRACT

The successful concert promoter should put the right music artist, in the right venue, and sell tickets to the public for the right price. That may be an over-simplification and, in this chapter, you will see how the concert promoter is a form of talent buyer who looks to stage a concert by an artist and make a profit from sales of tickets. Concert promoters range from in-house “bookers” in bars and clubs, to regional, national, and international concert promotion companies. You will also see how concert promotion has become consolidated amongst a handful of global companies who operate their own venues, promote concert tours, and organise the world’s biggest open-air festivals.
