ABSTRACT

A concert promoter and artist will both want to profit from a concert. This chapter examines how the profit is generated, and how that profit is shared between the artist and the promoter. You will look at a range of common deals – so-called “hard ticket” concert deals with straight ticket-splits and “percentage after net box office receipts” (NBOR) deals. “Soft ticket” deals (guarantee or fixed fee deals) are applicable to festivals and opening slots. There are terms attached to each of these deals, as well as a range of often-unanticipated expenses for the promoter. You will have knowledge of those expenses after reading this chapter.
