ABSTRACT

The contract rider is a document that sets out the requirements of the artist for every performance. The rider is issued by the artist to the concert promoter, and the promoter agrees to provide or arrange every item or activity listed in the contract rider. The stipulations can range from a simple list of food and drink applicable to bar- or club-level touring, to a multiple page document detailing all aspects of the artists production for concerts in arenas and stadiums. Contract riders, and their implications for the concert promoter, are often misunderstood and you can examine the conventions and implications of the rider in this chapter.
