ABSTRACT

Business reports communicate facts and sometimes opinions or recommendations based on those facts. The audience for a business report is usually a manager or managers within an organization. Business reports generally describe, in detail, a particular situation. Business reports appear in a variety of media, often depending on the nature and the size of the target audience. Whether formal or informal, good business reports are clear, concise, detailed and well-organized. The format of a business report should clarify its organization and aid readability. The memo or letter of transmittal typically accompanies paper reports and is paper-clipped to the title page or cover of the report. In many reports, using the subject-restriction-information paragraph-organization technique, when appropriate, can help keep the body focused on the report’s subject. Like endnotes, a list of works consulted is reserved for very formal reports. The text of a business report is single-spaced.
