ABSTRACT

This chapter helps the people find the right kind of property by discussing the factors the people need to consider in choosing a location and a property. One way to identify a good area to buy is to find the desirable area and buy as close to it as the people can. As a first-time buyer, the prices in the desirable areas might be beyond the people reach. One strategy to find a balance between desirability and affordability is to follow a concentric ring model and look at areas outside the ‘prime’ area. In some parts of the country (e.g. London), the postcode can add or detract thousands of pounds to/from a property’s value. To complicate matters, the boundaries for postcodes can be one side of the street or the other. Living in a catchment area of a good school is important for families with children because school admission rules are mainly based on location.
